Re: dsclink vs. GeeGee - NEW Theme H2H - VOTING LIVE
About a 2 meter.

An automatic alignment system wouldn't be worth the expense in our situation. Since we would be floating not only would it have to maintain the correct azimuth, but it would also have to compensate for the pitch and roll due to wave action to maintain elevation. Then there is the problem of interferences from our cranes and legs. There is only about 120° that the dish can see through before hitting the interferences. What we do to account for that is change the dish mount to a different part of the rig depending on our bow heading. There are 3 different locations we can use. That's fine when we are stationary, but not so much for floating around. I'm sure there are methods and systems available that are probably used on the big floating rigs (like the Deepwater Horizon was), but not worth the cost for small old junky rigs like mine.

By the way, we've run into some problems that are delaying us for the time being. It looks like it will be at least 3 days before we'll be ready to move. And then the weather could delay that even further. Have to wait and see.

Edit: By the way, if you are curious we use RigNet for our communications.

We have several telephone lines using VOIP with Singapore/Houston numbers for each line. Also our internet connection.
