Recreate a Classic Collaboration
I got the idea from this picture I saw posted on the wall where I teach college:

(Sorry for the crappy quality... automatically resizes when sent from phone, if you want a better copy, I can get it off my card and send it to you.)

As you can see the artists recreated one of VanGogh's images in 9 squares and then put them together into one image again. Each region is distinct, but is a part of a recognizable whole.

I thought it would be neat to have a group of us each do one quadrant (sextrant?, octrant? nontrant?) of a famous image in our own way, and then reconstruct it here.

Feel free to reply to this thread, and if enough are interested, I'll begin actual co-ordination. Target time to begin working on this is approximately 1 week from today.

Re: Recreate a Classic Collaboration
Neat idea. I think I'll just sit back and watch this one to see how it goes. Maybe next time if the theme is a hit.

Things have been going so bad lately that I'm thinking about pitching a tent in the grouchy grumble hate thread.

Re: Recreate a Classic Collaboration
OK... got some takers...

I'm thinking either do a different VanGogh, a Munch or an O'Keefe. I'm thinking something simple, but "busy" in every quadrant.

Any thoughts?

FWIW - With me, we've got 6. Up to 3 more and we can still effectively make this work. (Although I don't know how a 7 block would work)

Re: Recreate a Classic Collaboration
I would think it would be possible to divide the image up no matter how may people play. They don't all have to be even squares. One could be a rectangle.

Re: Recreate a Classic Collaboration
I appreciate the thought electro but with johnebones we've got 9.
I want to try to keep this somewhat simple for the first time out, so we'll go with the 9 we've got and divide it up Tic-Tac-Toe style.

I've got a couple lesson plans to finish tonight, but I'll get on finding an image when I'm done with that and chop it into pieces and PM them to the participants.

EDIT - Got a painting from an artist I haven't mentioned yet. Nice and big. I've chunked it up. Each person will get their block via PM. The plan is to send out chunks without revealing the entirety of the image. Just work your chunk. When you return your image to me, return it in exactly the same size you got it. This will make reassembly way easier.

Please try to have your block done by Next Sunday Evening, but don't rush it. I think we'd all rather have good than quick (thus the week).

The artist is rather well-known, and if you recognize their work, that's fine, I'm just trying to make this up as I go along. If there's a call for seeing the original un-chunked, I can easily do that.

List of Classic Art Collaboration I Participants:
HoboSong
Mister I
ElectronChaser
libranoelrose
TerrapinBound
cbleek
LightGiver
johnebones
Yugoboy

If there's a mix-up, please let me know.

EDIT 2 - The Attachment feature on the PMs is neat! All ninths are in PMboxes, y'all! Get painting ('shopping/poo-flinging/whatevering)!
