Just to be perfectly clear: are those 100px included in the 1920? The idea, I take it, is that nothing significant should be included on those left and right edges.

Yes.

Your canvas is 1920 x 1080. However, don't put anything you don't want covered in the 100px Right & Left margins. Because until all of the images are submitted and we start to create a narrative, we won't know if your image will be scrolled into from the side or zoomed into from "above". And we will need to do "in-between" work to bridge images.

So do NOT leave those edges blank, but don't put anything near & dear to your heart in those margins. If you have Photoshop (or even Elements I believe), I suggested using a layer mask (or simple a new layer with boxes drawn on) to gauge how deep 100 pixels would be. But only as a tool for you... the submitted image should have no bars or blank regions.

This was a recent entry in a PSC contest and was originally 1280x720 so the resized dimensions are a little skewed. Now if the left fin of the Right Narwhal was near and dear, I would move the Narwhal more toward the center. But it doesn't cover truly critical data so I'd likely leave it as is (and might request that the in-between artist try not to cover it up!).

The circle represents a drill-down spot. You don't need to specify a location (with a marker like I show), but just want to show how little an opening is requested. Like the edges, I just ask that you allow some space of 100 px diameter that may allow us to drill down from or into your pic.
