Recreate a Classic Collaboration - First Edition - Comments
Use this thread to comment on the May 2010 Gauguin Collaboration

I was asked in an email if there'd be a guessing contest. I asked what they meant, but I'm thinking this: I won't reveal who did which block until sometime next week. Feel free to try to guess who did what. Participants, please don't out yourselves.

My comment?

This went remarkably smoothly. libranoelrose had to beg off for undisclosed personal reasons. dsclink stepped right up and took over the assigned block admirably.

This has been my first major photoshop project in weeks, and it was tremendously rewarding. I'm definitely thinking we should do this again. I'm going to keep my eyes out for a perfect image for June. Keep your eyes peeled for details!

That turned out pretty darn good. I kinda wish the lines between entries turned out a bit smoother, but cool nonetheless.

Excllent! This was fun! Looking forward to another already.

I could tell this was a Gauguin, but didn't know the particular painting. So I was surprised to find certain elements. (Can't be more specific at the risk of "outing" myself....)

Did two people both use parts of Miss USA Rima Fakih's face?

Thanks, Yugoboy.

nope, my preferred cliche is much more shapely...

But at least you hazard a guess -- I wouldn't even know where to begin.

Due to a serious lack of guessing, I will post the answers soon (tonight, if I'm not totally wiped out from setting up for garage sale).

Not right now so people can try their guesses out before then, as well as it's just sunny as all get out, and this is going to take a bit... I'm gonna be thorough about it

I wouldn't know where to begin with guessing.

...except for beginning with my own, but that wouldn't really be in the spirit of things.

At least now I can answer Mr. I. No I did not use miss USA's face for my corner. Just a face I downloaded off the net.

Re: Recreate a Classic Collaboration - First Edition - Comme
I posted a "Credits" image, and then each person's block full size by itself.

Feel free to peruse and enjoy.

The first two I got were done in the way I imagined in my head - an attempt to digitally "paint" the picture in one's own style.
Then I got one of the "other" ones. I was non-plussed, but only for about 4 seconds. I got a couple more in, and they were all over the place. It turned out really really neat.

Mister I's was probably the most unusual, as well as being one of the last few in. It just tied it all in a nice (not) neat bow and really "finished" the picture off. Regardless of what was in my head, I wouldn't have had it turn out any other way.

Thank you all once again!

Definitely look for a June one (if there's demand and participation).

Thanks, Yugoboy. It was a fun challenge.

A quick explanation of my image. Its a mosaic of 5000 tiles made using a series of paintings by Gauguin:

An expanded detail of the paintings making up the dogs head:

The full size mosaic can be found here: http://www.pbase.com/johnebones/image/124690385
