Colorization free-for-all
This is a non-voting, just-for-fun-and-practice colorization. It's open to anyone who likes to colorize or who has always wanted to try colorization.
Source pic is TBD. I haven't found one I'm thrilled with yet and will look more tomorrow. If someone else has one in the meantime, feel free to post it. It should be suitable for those who are just starting out with colorization, so nothing too detailed or fussy. |

Re: Colorization free-for-all
OK...here it is: Colorize this handsome Maasai youth.
NOTE: libranoelrose let me know that when he opens the pic, it's in grayscale. That means it can't be colorized until it's converted to RGB. If you run into the same problem, click the Image menu in PS, select Mode, and check RGB Color. Oddly, I'm not running into that problem on my end. Thanks, libranoelrose! Full-size version is here: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v31/j ... th_lrg.jpg. If you are interested in trying to match the actual colors or just want to see what they look like, the color version is here: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v31/j ... _youth.jpg. The beads are a bit fussy, but not too bad.

Phooey nothing, this picture made me get out of my comfort zone and learn some new tricks! Much appreciated, and I'll try to submit tonight if I can. Edit: Finally got it to look somewhat like the original. I think I understand what 'masking' when colorizing means now.

Re: Colorization free-for-all
Nice jorb, libranoelrose! I especially like the lower strand of beads and his skin tone.
I've gotten a start on it, but it will probably take me a while because I'm being distracted by kittens. |

Re: Colorization free-for-all
Hey folk, I have an assignment for you. I created a test gallery based on this open challenge. I rehosted and posted the image ban_sidhe provided into this gallery:
http://forum.misfitsquirrels.com/gallery...lbum_id=55 A mod or admin must 1st create the contest gallery, but once done, registered users, mods, and admins have the ability to upload their own images to these kind of contests (most contests, really). Here are quick instructions for uploading your image - 1st click the NEW IMAGE button or link, located to the left of the Search option near the top of the gallery page. Then follow the instructions noted in the printscreen attachment below. [attachment=0] At the top of this forum, I'll include a thread where you can post issues encountered with this process or questions. Thanks! That is like totally jaw dropping awesome dude!
Excellent technical detail, and IMO the 180° color shift was brilliant. |

Re: Colorization free-for-all
1. The Gallery rocks.
2a. That's one hell of a lovely colorization, ElectronChaser! 2b. I would totally wear those green earrings. Sadly, it looks like I won't have much time to work on this until the weekend. :/ |
