EPIC Image Narrative - Suggestions and Ideas - GbyP - 12-03-2012 12:05 PM

Please provide chatter here in this thread on how you think we should navigate through the pics in the Image Thread:
- In the order they are now,
- by theme,
- using all the eye pictures as 'portals' to drill down into other images,
- your nifty suggestions...
etc

We have 99.9% of the curves and loops and twists for our roller coaster ride, but how are we going to lay them out to create an awesome adventure - I would like to hear ideas. Your thoughts on best images to drill into (rather than scroll into from the side). Your thoughts on the Starting Frame and ending frames.

But if asking for a navigation scheme is 'too much', can I please get you to...
- provide your favorite images that you think might make the best Start and End images?
OR
- should we have separate Start and Finish pics - one with introductory text and one with end credits?
OR
- should we use the same image for Start and Finish and keep text on transparency layers? This would enable a 'loop' effect - a continuity were the reel to play again?

Thanks!

Here is a continuous sheet of all the project images.

Thanks for the posting this idea LightGiver - much appreciated.

If the above scroll is too much in one viewing, here are smaller bites:
1. Andy Iceprey to GeeGee

2. ICUR to Sonic3

3. Supdog to Yugoboy
[Please ignore the wavion evil pic - that will not be in the set. teehee]

Please try not to focus on the border colors but rather the primary color(s) of the image because in theory, in the video, you won't see those solid borders but rather "in-betweens" images that link adjoining pics so it looks like a continuous scroll. Those who worked on multiple panels of an exquisite corpse will understand - or just look at the PSC video in the Project Summary.

There are a LOT of great images in that thread - I think you all have a lot to be proud of just by itself. When it's complete and rolling, it will be... well Epic. Happy3

Please give ideas about this. Because this is a separate subject from internal flow.

Thanks!

I like the last idea, having the start/finish images the same so that it would loop seamlessly.

I second that Choc.

I'll 3rd that. I will have to peruse the images some more for real feedback. There is a LOT going on there. I don't think you should keep a particular chopper's work together. You have earth, sea and space, color themes, a good bit of abstract stuff - all of it beautiful.

I can certainly see why you're asking for help!

I for one, would say if you want to dive into the window in my dream pic, I could theoretically replace the image behind the pane with the one you want to zoom into. Should be easy enough... and that is just one example of how I see these pieces working together as a whole. Anyway I'll stop stream of consciousness typing and let others weigh in while I cogitate more.

RE: EPIC Project Chatter - LightGiver - 12-04-2012 04:16 AM

I just thought thought seeing all the images together all at once and being able to enlarge the icons up and down a little would be nice like in a mac folder with view control... as more thumbnail sizes so we could see how color detail blend and maybe be able to re arrange them in like smug mug or something... just a thought.

here is another thought::::::! and a point or so.. Wait I forgot. Oh yeah... /not really.

~j/k Critrpanda

there was a THEME TO FOLLOW /some followed it better than others... there is that group. that It could be divided by but then there are colors and intricies and a lot of EYES... focal points and there is difinitation and thought and moments and mabey we could make up these catagories and pur em in there and play around with placement like its a game cause i think there ost definately could be some great positive synergy to put together if we could just LOOK at it thums size all together and bige detail size but hey I'm just dreaming. Just Sharing what's in my mind about this all and I'm going to keep on thinking about it because THINKING is the best thing a person can do.
/heard Einstien said Thinking was Physical! anyway. as I say...
catch you later and... I'm just going t to keep on thinking and looking and thinking of the grouping of our positive synergy

Thanks for the great idea LightGiver!

I am taking a much needed vacation day on Tues. I start my day with dental and med appts (yay, wait...) and I have a couple side-projects to attend. But one thing I am going to try to do is throw all the images in After Effects and add the soundtrack (and maybe simple mechanical transitions) then post the simple SIMPLE draft video on our YT account and provide an unlisted video link in a Project Team only sub-forum (because these threads are accessible to Earth now). Wish me luck.

Hello GOOD LUCK!

RE: EPIC Image Narrative - Suggestions and Ideas - Mister I - 12-04-2012 09:24 PM

There is lots of wonderful work here. (I don't know why I couldn't find it all earlier, but OK, now I am on track.)

There are several beach/ocean images that might flow well into each other. Ditto for planet/space images.

I suggest that the eye images not all go together, but come up periodically as a recurring theme that will help to tie this together.

I spotted two typewriters (DBPMS1 at 4:30 and DonWrite1), and as a typewriter collector I insist (j/k) that they be linked!

RE: EPIC Image Narrative - Suggestions and Ideas - LightGiver - 12-11-2012 09:15 PM

Mr I I like that suggestion... Perhaps the overall color or detail of the the image have some "magnetic" grouping or something... still thinking.... looking and looking 4...???

RE: EPIC Image Narrative - Suggestions and Ideas - wavion - 12-12-2012 08:55 PM

If you guys decide to make the video looping, I'll try to make you a new* loopable ending for the song - if I get some time.

*well, newER, since only like 3 people downloaded the original. :(

Also, I really want to see that Sci-Fi Nerd-mas collab make it into the video. That's one of my favorite photoshops that I took part in.

BEFORE:
Click (1.45 MB).

AFTER:
Click (1.5 MB).

Artists in filenames.

I was thinking you could scroll left to right on the BEFORE one - up to the igloo, seamlessly switch to the AFTER one (still on the igloo), then scroll back right to left on the AFTER image.

I'd be willing to give up the 3 wavion images to see this done.

RE: EPIC Image Narrative - Suggestions and Ideas - GbyP - 12-13-2012 12:16 AM

I'm sorry wavion -you had talked to me before about this and I completely forgot. I'll add it in - no reason to remove anything at this time.

I like the idea of a loop. The only problem I see is that you can't automatically loop video on YouTube... that I know of. If I'm wrong, show me how. So I'm not sure which venue would allow the view to take advantage of an endless loop. SO maybe just make the music start/end with a long note. Of if the there is a venue, we can create a alt non-ending version.
OR...
We could 'create' a 10hr version - like this:

Of course if we do this there will be a REAL contract on my fuzzy little head.

Nowhere I know allows "endless loop" playback on the web. Thats more a download it to your comp kinda thing.

Plus.. I agree on the easiest way to loop...start and end on the same slide/in the same dimension/same perspective. Let the music end on the ending slide at the last frame of the ending slide. Depending on the tune you have to use.. the best kind begin with and end with distinct beats...When looping... figure in the delay...and the beats can truly be seamless.

Maybe since the musical artist is in residence... we can ask real polite like to see if he could take a look at making the music more loop friendly.

That aside (and since the original idea had nothing to do with looping anything) crafting a piece with a distinct beginning and ending with our music and pics is really gonna rock. Some very talented folks have contributed what should really make this EPIC!

RE: EPIC Image Narrative - Suggestions and Ideas - GbyP - 12-16-2012 06:04 AM

I'm going to start working on this Sunday; I have Monday off from work as well. It will occupy my free time until it's done.

I saw a cool graphics style today that I'm going to try as a bridging technique for some of the images. I got some great suggestions here and via PM.

As I'm working I want to create draft video versions and post to our YT channel.

Stay tuned.

Idea re: looping idea... once the video is made, how hard would it be to create some sort of Screensaver or Flash version that could just loop on our own computers that could be downloaded by anyone?

Honestly I like the looping idea.

Also... if I do get to crafting a new image, it'll replace the third one above. Not that I don't like the Angelina Jolie skull thingee, but it's probably the least representative of me of the 3. (The first one is the only one I made for this project, and it it totally me... if you could crack open my skull and look at my soul, that's pretty much what you'd see... well... that and porn, but I figured we should keep this at least a little SFW)

I'm starting the narrative tomorrow. There is no time for you to create a new image. The project is already MONTHS over due. I don't want to push this out further. You can either provide me another pic from your portfolio or I'll just use the 1 you submitted for the project plus the 2nd image. When I wrote on Dec 5th for you to OK the images you responded but did not mention one thing about not liking the selections. So I'm a bit upset you waited until I'm ready to start the final phase.

I'm going to try to create a file that starts and finishes on the same image (and see what we can do with the music... maybe a simple fade in/fade out will suffice without making wavion alter his music).

You don't need to create a Flash version - just download the video from YouTube using a FREE app like this YTD Video Downloader and play on this free app: Media Player Classic - Home Cinema. There is a setting where you can tell it how many time to loop.

I don't think this will work as a Screensaver because the video will be HUGE - that can really tax a system.
